Life is not a Choose Your Own Adventure

Sometimes, while I listen to what Grandfather is saying, I find myself agreeing and recognizing knowledge I already have or following closer during new learning I wish to absorb fully.

The most inspiring teachings for me are the ones Grandfather gives about the importance of humans’ connection to nature and the rhythms of the the natural world, which include our interaction or observance. His discourses on traditional and indigenous people’s practices with ritual and ceremony make me long for, and question the possibility of, their implementation in today’s modern world. I also enjoy the spontaneous infusion of humor he gives throughout his teaching.

Grandfather’s wisdom makes me see that we are all involved with each other, nature and “The Gods” in a dramatic, unscripted yet foreshadowed continuum of existence, not a “choose your own adventure” without connection to anything greater than ourselves.

[He has shown me] that there is always going to be more involved with life than I can realize or change. All I can do is live within the flow of each day, in the best way I can, with an awareness of heart, integrity, humor and respect for all living beings and spirits around me.

I used to live without paying attention to some of these elements of life. I used to think it was all about having fun and being happy every day and would be led by my mind. The hard work, sacrifice and sadness involved in life need to be fully experienced, too. Now, feeling more of that enables me to hear and respond more to the voice of my heart.

From Grandfather’s wisdom-seed implanted in my awareness, I feel like I experience a deeper connection to everything involved with my experience of life.
